Laura Oczos

Box Vale Track II

LAURA OCZOS

(b. 1984, Newcastle) is a painter based in Wollongong, NSW, whose work explores the fluid and shifting nature of memory through abstracted landscapes. Painting from memory rather than direct observation, she layers past and present experiences, merging multiple perspectives to evoke a sense of place rather than an exact likeness. Her practice is deeply personal, reflecting how recollection distorts, reshapes, and reinterprets familiar environments over time. Through gestural mark-making and layered colour, Oczos creates landscapes that feel both intimate and universal, inviting viewers to engage with the emotional and atmospheric qualities of remembered places.
