LANI WESTERMAN

‘Lani’s early life experience in Canberra, a city planned with respect to the architectural vision of Walter Burley and Marion Griffin, led her to appreciate symmetry,  alignment, mapping and the interrelationship between natural and designed elements in the landscape.

Later, Lani trained to become an architect which contributed to a strong creative framework to harness her passion for painting, particularly with regard to balanced composition, attention to detail and the use of historical precedents.

Travel and living aboard has also influenced Lani’s ways of experiencing and representing landscape.

Lani looks for beauty and purity of form in the natural and built environment which she translates into her artwork. She is currently focused on the idea that a meandering line is intersected by a rational grid. Lani endeavours to capture the quintessential essence of the landscape in a style that is timeless.’
