JAMIE BOYD

Born 1948, Melbourne Victoria

Australian artist Jamie Boyd, belongs to the renowned Boyd art dynasty.

Son of celebrated Australian artist Arthur Boyd, Jamie studied at the Central School of Art and Design in music and composition, graduating in 1960.
He has exhibited in Sydney and internationally in London, Germany, Holland and Italy.
His work is held by the National Gallery of Victoria, Melbourne; the Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery in Tasmania and Artbank, Sydney.
A monograph of Boyd’s work titled ‘Jamie Boyd – Paintings 1965 – 1980′ was published in 1980 and his work has featured in books on the work of the Boyd’s including Dobrez and Herbst’s ‘The Art of the Boyd’s’ in 1991 and Niall’s ‘The Boyd’s’ 2002.

Born in Melbourne, Jamie Boyd moved to London with his family as a young boy.

At the age of 17 he began painting full-time in London and trained at the Central School of Art and Design.

He held his first Australian exhibition in 1966 at the Bonython Galleries in Adelaide.

Since then he has exhibited regularly in Australia and throughout Europe.

His work is represented in public collections including Artbank Australia, Tavistock Centre London, National Gallery of Victoria amongst others.

He has held numerous solo and group exhibitions in Australia and Europe including at Gallerie D’Eendt – Amsterdam; The Palazzo Strozzi – Florence; Christchurch Mansions – Ipswich, England; “Londinium” (Rebecca Hossack Art Gallery) and the City of London Festival.

An acknowledged master-colourist, Jamie Boyd’s paintings often have a lyrical dream-like quality.  The poetic qualities of Boyd’s paintings match the sensitive attention he gives to surface textures, while his vigorous, instinctive response to landscape is balanced by a sense of mischief.
