EVIE ADASAL

Evie Adasal’s practice is rooted in her deep connection to landscape, focusing on the deconstruction of color and exploration of light and space. Her paintings capture the interplay between the natural world and her own sensory experiences, transforming these into abstract and minimalist compositions. Evie’s work often begins with a feeling or memory tied to her surroundings, which she interprets through the bold use of unexpected color combinations to create a dynamic visual experience.

Her process involves layering, creating illuminous tones and reworking surfaces to explore the spatial and emotional possibilities of color. Inspired by the landscapes she inhabits, the shifting moods of light and space are central to her work, with each piece serving as a reflection of both her internal dialogue and external environment.

She continues to push the boundaries of how landscapes can be interpreted through abstraction, inviting viewers to engage with the emotional and sensory depth of her paintings.

Artist Statement – Evie Adasal

My work explores the relationship between landscape, light, and space, drawing on abstract forms to interpret my surroundings. Over the past 15 months, my practice has shifted towards a more reductive approach, focusing on the power of color and the interaction of tones to convey emotion and atmosphere.

At the heart of my work is a deep connection to the landscape I inhabit, though I move beyond literal representation to deconstruct elements of color and light. I challenge traditional harmony by juxtaposing unexpected color combinations—mixing hot, cold, and warm tones—to create a visual tension that reflects the contrasts found in nature. This tension allows me to explore how color and form can alter our perception of depth, space, and mood, creating an expansive dialogue between the viewer and the canvas.

My current body of work is both a continuation of my exploration of light theory and an invitation to engage with the subtleties of color in new and surprising ways. Through this minimalist abstraction, I aim to evoke a sensory experience of the landscape, inviting the viewer to see beyond the surface and into the underlying complexities of place, time, and emotion.
