Artist Statement

My work tends to be based around recurring themes, which reflects fragmented memories of images from the present and the past.
My series centered on children are about fleeting, unresolved recollections and conflicting experiences in childhood, difficult to articulate in language. Childhood stories, nostalgic images, fables, the rawness of children’s feelings are all there, jumbled. Painting however allows for the unresolved and contradictory to be expressed in a way language cannot. The idealization of rural living that is rural living seen through rose-colored glasses is the inspiration for the cow series. While my still-life series is another look into the past, a re-imaging of the still- life tradition and its symbolism.
