ARTIST STATEMENT

My role as an artist is to create work that inverts the familiar. I am a visual artist who is stimulated by the potency of the tactile and the handmade. I work with what nature provides. With these past vessels, I reconstruct new forms, develop and adapt their histories and accept the parasitic quality of my role.
I approach both forms of my practice with a time labored layering. My images and objects reveal themselves through an accruement of ghost veils, skins, stitch, and line. As I have matured as a visual artist I have grown to respect the wealth of significance that materiality plays within my practice

ARTIST BIOGRAPHY

Carolyn V Watson was born in Wagga Wagga NSW in 1977 and is the youngest of four girls. She spent her childhood observing the actions of her older siblings and the verbal jousting of her parents and loosing herself in her small drawings
From 1996 to 1998 she attended Griffith Queensland College of Art Majoring in Painting and Life Drawing. In 2006 she recommenced her artistic career and resumed exhibiting in small solo shows throughout Brisbane. Selected as a Finalist in 2008 for the Prometheus Visual Art Awards, it was at this exhibition that she secured representation with Anthea Polson Art.
Under the Gallery's encouragement and guidance Carolyn's practice has flourished and has gained national recognition for both her 2D and 3D work. Carolyn's work has become part of major collections throughout Australia, Hong Kong and Munich.
