Artist Statement

The body of work entitled 'Starlet' conjoins themes of timlessness and the vibrancy of the feminine psyche.  The aspirations and journeys made by women, be they grand or small, persist for future generations within my own subconscious.  Offering a kind of visual platform, 'Starlet' opens up to a world alive with glowing colour and delicate motion.

In 1997 I started my artists study at St Kevin's School, Qld in grade 3 attending art classes with the schools' art coordinator.  When I reached grades 11 and 12 at AB Patterson College, the arts coordinator encouraged me to paint and experiment with new mediums.

During this period, I was shortlisted for the 2006 Ministers Awards for Education in Art.
I became Art Captain of the school and during this year, earned one of the highest academic grades a Qld student can achieve in the arts.

I again exhibited in the Ministers Awards in 2007 and was a shortlisted winner.  I then entered the Queensland Youth Art Awards in which I recieved a prize.

From my success in these awards I was approached to exhibit at Art Gallery Schubert and my 'Dreamlessly' series has been shown there very successfully for the past year, leading to me being collected by a number of international collectors.  I have been producing this latest body of work whilst studying at Griffith University to become a fine artist.

Artist Statement - Dreamlessly Series

"Dreamlessly undoing the past alludes to the meaning of time immemorial, inviting the mind to think back to the beginning, and how through literal documented journeys we have learnt and defined ourselves as a gender.  Combining essences of femmage with fine art, I explored feminism and feminist theory while focusing on colour and texture to take the eye on a timely journey."
